With the new search function, Echemi will be able to provide users with more sustainable chemical results; This will help chemical suppliers and the textile industry find approved chemicals by defining "sustainable attributes" for Echemi-approved chemicals registered in the Echemi Finder.

Echemi Finder is an advanced web-based search engine for manufacturers. It contains a positive list of preferred chemical products. Today, more than 20,000 Echemi-approved chemical products are registered on Echemi finder.

Echemi-approved chemical products have met Echemi's rigorous chemical evaluation standards. This means that approved chemicals are produced following best occupational health and safety (OHS) practices and have less impact on the environment. The company says textiles processed with Echemi-approved chemicals meet the highest levels of consumer safety.

Now, in addition to the existing features in Echemi Finder, Echemi System Partner chemical suppliers can apply for selected sustainability attributes for their chemicals, which will be displayed in Echemi Finder. Echemi will validate sustainability claims in on-site and chemical assessments. Requirements and data requirements will be set out in the standard.

Starting this year, Echemi Finder will be modified to have a search function with the following first-priority properties:

Renewable feedstock (biomass or biobased): any chemical product that contains at least 20% (by weight) biomass in the form of biomass-derived carbon.

The renewable feedstock of sustainable origin (biomass or biobased): any chemical product containing at least 20% (by weight) biomass in the form of biomass-derived carbon. Biomass content should be derived from land that has been proven sustainable.

Recyclable ingredients: Applies to any chemical product that contains at least 20% (by weight) recyclable ingredients. For the calculation of recycling content, only the dry content of the chemical product should be considered, excluding water.

Echemi Finder will continue to evolve and will launch an online search engine for sustainable textile auxiliaries and dyes.

Other companies have been creating methods for assessing the safety of chemicals in use. Earlier this year, VelocityEHS, a company focused on cloud-based EHS and ESG software, announced that it would partner with emerging risk analytics company Praedicat to launch green chemistry products as part of its Accelerate platform. The platform addresses key ESG challenges through artificial intelligence components of natural language processing (NPL) and machine learning.

Specifically, VelocityEHS Green Chemistry uses Praedicat's patented technology to proactively scan thousands of scientific journals in real time to continuously assess and update the risk profile of chemicals in use based on potential hazards.
