The fact that Elden Ring contains not one but two Astals may have some significance in the game's lore, but this is only a theory. It's possible that the Astels were asked to come to the Lands Between.

Players of Elden Ring have voiced their displeasure with the repeated design of Astel, but there may be a story-driven explanation for why there are two distinct iterations of the character. There is a chance that the Astels were either brought to the Lands Between by accident or discovered there by chance. This may explain why the Astals have a design that is similar to each other as well as why some Astals are more difficult to defeat than others.

The Astel bosses in Elden Ring are otherworldly monsters that can cause the destruction of Eternal Cities. These bosses are both beautiful and terrifying. Both of these encounters are completely optional; however, in order for players to finish Ranni's questline, they will need to seek out and defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void in the Grand Cloister. The other Astel can be found in a cave in the Consecrated Snowfields known as the Yelough Anix Tunnel. This cave is frosty.

Astel is depicted in Elden Ring as the final stage of Fallingstar Beasts' metamorphosis, which lends credence to the theory that the two entities are connected in some way. On the other hand, it's possible that this isn't the case for Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, and Astel, Stars of Darkness. It is possible that the Astels that reside in Elden Ring were transported to the Lands Between using the information contained in a number of different sorceries as well as Remembrance of the Naturalborn.

Where the Astels of Elden Ring Could Have Originated

According to The Remembrance of the Naturalborn, Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, is a malformed star that was born in a void far away. This seems to imply that Astel was born somewhere else and traveled to the Lands Between to become what it is now. And at some point after reaching the Lands Between, it decimated an Eternal City and removed their sky from above them.

There is a possibility that the Nox was responsible for bringing the Astel to the Lands Between, as terrifying as this information is. It is revealed in Elden Ring that the Nox were at odds with Elden Ring's Greater Will and conducting experiments to aid in their fight; they created the mimic tears in the hopes of making an Elden Lord. This information is revealed in Elden Ring. There is a sorcery in the Eternal City called Eternal Darkness that is said to be the reason for the "ruin" of the Eternal City; the sorcery generates a space of darkness that attracts other sorceries and incantations. According to the names of the Astels, which are Naturalborn of the Void and Stars of Darkness, both of these groups are associated with the shadowy realm. Therefore, Elden Ring Runes XBOX's possible that when the Nox were performing the ritual associated with the Eternal Darkness, they came across both Astals by accident and brought them out of the darkness that pervaded space. Because of this, Elden Ring Runes XBOX is possible to explain why both Astals have physically similar appearances: they originate from the same location.

Power Differences Between Elden Ring's Astels
It's possible that the differences in power between the Astels have nothing to do with the Nox and instead are solely dependent on the Astels themselves. The other Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, is unable to cast waves of darkness while Elden Ring's Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, can. Although both Astelos are able to teleport, only Stars of Darkness possesses the ability to create multiple illusions of themselves. There is, of course, also the possibility that FromSoftware simply recycled the model that was used for Astel and changed only the suffix to the name. Elden Ring features multiple bosses that have been recycled from previous games, such as the Erdtree Burial Watchdog. The differences in power could be a way to spice up a recurring boss fight; alternatively, the Astels could be linked to a larger mystery that will be solved in a downloadable content pack or an update in the near future.
