He tells her that her father is doing it only for the money and that she has a right to study even if she marries. In the end, Ganapathi's words change the way Gayathri's father thinks. He cancels the wedding. Gayathri continues going to school while working in a factory at night. Ganapathi meets her whenever he can but more often than not, they have to hide their meetings from others. Gayathri likes Ganapathi a lot but Ganapathi's mother wants him to get married to another Brahmin girl who is from his home town.
