Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred and Queen of the Succubi as well as the Mother of Sanctuary, has played a pivotal role in the Eternal Conflict despite the fact that she has chosen neither side and has instead left a legacy that was created by blood and clay. She has been mentioned numerous times throughout the Diablo series, and in the upcoming installment, Diablo 4, which is being developed by Blizzard, she takes on the role of the primary antagonist. Lilith believed that the Eternal Conflict, or more specifically the war between the angels and Hell, was an endeavor that was largely pointless, particularly in light of how her father managed to conduct himself during the conflict. Despite this, the conflict continued until she came across a solitary angel whose perspectives piqued her interest. As a result, she decided to shelter him until he roused himself from his slumber and joined the fight. That angel's name was Inarius, and he was the one who surprised Lilith with his thoughts on the Eternal Conflict by expressing a desire for it to come to an end as she revealed herself to him. She saw this as a prime opportunity to manipulate Inarius by telling her plans to retrieve the Worldstone in order to bring peace by creating a world similar to the one they had envisioned together. Later, Inarius became infatuated with her. Because obtaining Worldstone was the only way for Lilith and Inarius to spend eternity together, they led their followers to the Pandemonium Fortress in order to try and obtain it. Those who trusted that Lilith and Inarius would create a new world were able to find a safe haven in this new world, which they named Sanctuary, away from the never-ending conflict.

After they had succeeded in their mission of establishing this new world, Inarius felt relieved that he had been able to avoid the conflict for the time being

- As a result, Lilith made the decision to bear children to Inarius

- Their firstborn child went on to become the pioneer of the Nephalem, a race of new beings that were produced as a result of the union of an angel and a demon

- After some time, all of the Nephalem's allies, friends, and fellow soldiers turned against them, which resulted in an invasion of Sanctuary, during which a great number of Nephalem soldiers were put to death

However, did Lilith's birth of the Nephalem, beings that possess the abilities of both angels and demons, become her master plan for ending the Eternal Conflict?

You will learn how all of this will factor into your experiences within the game as you make your way through Sanctuary in pursuit of Lilith while she is surrounded by her armies, as well as how Inarius will play a role in this journey. In any case, it is not entirely clear what the actual plans are for your character, but it seems that the Sanctuary will be the location where the beginning of the end will take place.
