Such catalysts can therefore contribute to the development of a circular and sustainable economy, whereby waste or residues from one industry become raw materials for another. This technology enables the production of high-value-added products such as cyclic carbonate, an important industrial chemical with a variety of applications: environmentally friendly solvents, lithium-ion batteries, paints and coatings, resins, polymer material precursors, and polymer processing in fine chemistry.

Some of their technical advantages are that these chiral bimetallic catalysts do not require the presence of a cocatalyst; They can function under mild pressure and temperature conditions and can be biodegradable due to their pseudo peptide structure. These properties lead to cost savings, reduced waste from catalytic processes, reuse of surplus energy (circular economy), and access to chiral products with high added value.
